DEFRA Compliant

​The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018 outlines the conditions that must be complied with in order to receive an animal activities licence for the activity of providing boarding for cats.
 
In order to receive a licence, your business will need to meet all of the minimum standards outlined in the document. In addition, businesses are encouraged to apply higher standards. A business that meets the higher standards will be able to gain a 4 or 5 star rating in the Animals Activity Star Rating System and will qualify for a longer licence (e.g. two or three years as opposed to a one-year licence) and thereby pay a lower licence fee.
 
Whilst applying the higher standards is optional, certain standards are required in order to attract the higher star ratings. See the Procedural Guidance for a full explanation of the Animals Activity Star Rating System and how it incorporates a risk assessment of the business.
